Alaska SBDC offers free 'Starting a Business' class, June 24 in Anchorage

The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will offer a free "Starting a Business' class on June 24. This is an in person workshop on and participants are recommended to register early, as seating is limited.
UA Federal Relations team listening sessions on FY26 budget continued

In an effort to gather as much information as possible on impacts of the FY 26 budget request, the UA Federal Relations Team will continue holding listening sessions next week on the budget request for NASA and the Department of Education (ED).
Summer newsletter schedule adjusted for July and August

The employee newsletter will follow a modified summer schedule in July and August, with editions publishing on the second and fourth Fridays. The regular schedule resumes in September.

Up until now, locally milled lumber in Alaska couldn't be used in residential building projects. That wasn't because of quality, but because building codes typically require a grade stamp from a national agency, something too expensive and inaccessible for many small operators in Alaska.

UAF business students placed second in the Undergraduate Growth Portfolio category at the Quinnipiac Global Asset Management Education Forum. Their 2024 portfolio, managed through the Student Investment Fund course, earned a 27% return and outperformed the S&P 500.
